Free Standing Wardrobes Explained In Simple Terms

There are many people in the world who have never seen a wardrobe before in their lives. Some others may feel that standalone wardrobes are an ancient relic of the past and as such has no useful function in today’s modern times. Well, in actual fact these wardrobes are still being manufactured, and they do still have a multitude of uses.

Standalone wardrobes can be described as a rather large box type piece of furniture that can be arranged wherever you like in a room. These wardrobes generally consist of two doors at the front while inside there is usually a rail for hanging clothes on. You may find that in some of these wardrobes, the space inside is divided into two with the rail running across the whole length. Some other wardrobes will also have drawers or shelves arranged in a specific way inside the compartment. The drawers and shelves are obviously ideal for storing folded clothes and other items.

Wardrobes are typically constructed from wood, and specifically hard woods such as oak, birch or cherry, and are very heavy. Obviously more modern designs are being made from cheaper materials such as fibre board, but these are less durable than the hard wood variety. At the end of the day, it would be better to pay a little bit extra for something you know that will last for many years, rather than getting something that will have to be replaced in a few years.

But why do people buy wardrobes in the first place? For a start, it is the ideal storage answer for those individuals that have a lot of clothing items, especially if they have another form of storage which is overflowing. Also, there is the aesthetic aspect of having a wardrobe in a bedroom. These can bring an elegance that no other piece of furniture can manage to do.

Some wardrobes today are even manufactured to not hold clothing at all. Instead you can open them up and find they are an entertainment unit, with stands for TV’s, DVD players and game consoles, as well as shelving for the actual games and DVD’s themselves. These are classed as fake wardrobes and can actually go into any room in the house due to the varied uses.

Whatever the case, wherever you have a standalone wardrobe, and for whatever reason, it will look fantastic in any room you decide to place it. Be sure that the wardrobe you choose though matches the decor/colour scheme of the room it is being placed in. You don’t want your elegant piece of furniture looking totally out of place.
