Ideas for Organising Your Wardrobe
Built-in wardrobes are becoming very popular again, and we’re not just talking about wardrobe organising systems where you just add the shelving and drawers, but the ones that turn any empty space you may have in your bedroom into the perfect storage area for your things. These wall units give you all the space you require, at the same time bringing a little order to the chaos that is normally called a bedroom.
In actual fact, wardrobes today can be designed and ultimately fitted into any room in the house. If space is at a premium, then you can have corner unit wardrobes installed, otherwise any long straight piece of wall is ideal. Before purchasing one though, or having one custom made, make a quick inventory of what you have that will be placed inside the wardrobe. Work out what will go where, how many shelves or drawers you will need, and how many rails will be needed to hang garments from.
If you have a showroom wardrobe fitted, you can always add extra’s on yourself should they be needed. Add hanging bars that you can cut to length or dowel rods for hanging extra clothes on; these are not an expensive addition at all. You could also add extra shelves should you wish, or create extra storage space within the wardrobe itself by strategically placing baskets or boxes. These are then ideal for all sorts of odds and ends you want to store away – anything from phone chargers and batteries to digital cameras and CD’s.
If you want to add more drawers to the wardrobe, you could go the easy route and actually purchase a small drawer cabinet to place inside; or bite the bullet and see about a wardrobe organising system. You don’t need to buy whole sets of these, only the parts you require. You could find a space for your laundry basket, even securing it to the door of the wardrobe so that it swings out easily when you need it.
Then you could improve the general aesthetics of the wardrobe in general by adding things such as trim and mouldings to the doors and surrounds. Add fancy handles and hinges to give it a more defined look. There are many things you could do to spice up your wardrobe, on top of all the interesting things that you could do to it internally.
Wardrobes needn’t be boring or dull. Use a touch of imagination and you could be pleasantly surprised – not just with the wardrobe itself, but the way it has an effect of changing the whole decor of your room.
