Organise That Wardrobe!

Most people begin their day by delving into their wardrobe, so if it’s tidy, you’re on your way quickly; if not then you start your day on the worst possible foot. It doesn’t take long to sort out your wardrobe, so get it organised and you will be able to start your day off on the right foot – everyday. Here are some pointers to help you with the task.

One, sort out you clothes and then separate them into seasonal garments. If the clothes are all mixed up you will take time to find that summer t-shirt amongst the winter sweaters! It would be much better to put the out-of-season stuff at the back of the wardrobe, ready to make an appearance when appropriate.

Two, try not to pack everything into the wardrobe. If you find that the hangars are not fitting easily between other clothes, then it’s time to store the excess elsewhere. Alternatively, you can give what you don’t need to charity.

Three, make sure that all the clothes in your wardrobe are something you would wear. If something doesn’t fit anymore or is out of fashion, then time to get rid. The same goes for clothes that are too worn.

Four, don’t try to sort the wardrobe out all in one go. You could find that the years of accumulation has left you a daunting task. Therefore try to organise it a bit at a time. If you are the sentimental type, think about having a friend over with you during the sort-out so that they can give you advice as to what should stay and what should be consigned to the great clothes after-life in the sky.

Five, make sure you attack the shoes as well. It’s surprising the pairs that build up, especially as footwear tends to go in and out of fashion. Get rid of the ones you just know you will never wear again.

Six, make a rule of thumb. This should be that if you haven’t worn a particular item for over a year, jettison it. Obviously this doesn’t include some seasonal stuff or special occasion clothes, but all the other stuff that is sitting there all that time really means they won’t be seeing the light of day again.

Consider organising your wardrobe akin to putting some organisation back into your life. If you are spending less time trying to work out what to wear next, your day won’t turn into one long rush from the moment you get up in the morning.
